WALTER RAES: from the land of Magritte, Horta, Dries van Noten & Martin Margiela
Walter Raes, the Belgium-born London-based artist, has been creating DESIGN ART from household & industrial materials for several years. In short, he takes the disposable remnants of our everyday lives & creates brilliant pieces which are explorations in form & function. His pieces of DESIGN ART are witty physical manifestations of his views on the wastefulness of our present day society: ironing boards, Tetra packaging, plastic ring holders for Coke cans, shoe trees, large cola bottles & coat hangers…

The late international fashion guru, Isabella Blow, was very passionate about Walter's art & made the comment "What is so exciting is how Walter is able to transform the objects in such a way that the original use is hidden." Walter continues to make DESIGN ART, hide their original use by giving them a new & functional use, his unique structure & sculpture, & the viewers either giggle or laugh aloud as they take in one of Walter’s designs, from the spread legs of The Bored Housewife to the laid-back Delia Garden Lounger, both envisioned from ironing boards!
